Better late than never...

I've been working at The Miami Herald for almost two years now and I realized this weekend that a lot of my favorite pieces haven't been uploaded here. Better late than never, here's a few examples of my favorite published work from The Miami Herald over the past year and a half.

Magic city

Right now I'm working on this big illustration of "MIAMI" - everything I think of when I think of my home town and all the big sights the magic city has to offer.

Dive in!

Swim Fashion graphic I made for The Miami Herald that published over the summer while I was working in New York. I did all the research, writing, and design for the women's side.

Buenos Aires

I fell in love with Buenos Aires, it's such a beautiful city with great people. I really did not want to leave so soon, but hopefully I'll get a chance to return one day for a longer time. Hope you enjoy my photos!

Had my last day at my internship with Good Housekeeping and I will be leaving New York City by the end of this week...which makes me very sad. I hate to leave, but I know I will be back in the city soon!

New York, NY

I'll be living here in New York for the summer while I intern with Good Housekeeping Magazine. I've only been in the city for almost a week, just exploring by myself or with a few New Yorker friends. It's been beautiful weather to wander about outside, with a few rainy exceptions. I already love it here.

It's official, New York City this summer!

I really want to make it out to see this house in Harlem. Apparently the neighborhood is gorgeous.  One of my favorite movies of all time, The Royal Tenenbaums, was filmed there. The Tenenbaum family lived at the corner of "111 Archer Avenue" (the real address is the corner of W 144TH ST and Convent Ave).

Volunteering again :)

Now that I don't have class on Fridays, I've started volunteering again at UM/Jackson Memorial Hospital's Pediatric Cancer Clinic. I have always really loved volunteering there as a visiting artist. It's pretty therapeutic and relaxing, for both the "kids" (sometimes it's parents, too!) and myself. Here are just a few of the paintings the kids have made since I started... there's probably nearly a hundred now, but these were some of my favorites.

Typesetting drawer obsession

I have been on the lookout for something like these vintage printers drawers and old typesetting letters, but have not seen any in all the antique shops I have been to. I think they look so neat and the drawers are perfect to store all my little elephants and such. At least one person has managed to find both and put them to good use (see photo). Hmm, maybe I should take a trip to Denmark (where all the best antiques seem to be).

In other news: I could spend hours listening to the speech accent archives on this site! It's so interesting to hear how many different ways we can pronounce the same things.

Alligator hugs, no big deal.

Starting a multimedia visual journalism project for class on this character to the left, Chris (the human holding a huge albino alligator underwater).

He's a professional snake and alligator handler over at Parrot Jungle Island and is studying Herpetology (from Greek 'herpien' meaning 'to creep', could there be a better fitting name?) - the branch of zoology concerned with the study of amphibians and reptiles... should be an interesting story, I just have to find out what exactly I want to tell. Definitely smells like adventure!
